Hondros College celebrates Spirit Week

December 3, 2010

Hondros College-School of Nursing celebrated Spirit week Nov 29-Dec 3. Students participated in a daily contest where they asked each other "Why do you want to be an RN?". They could then submit an answer from their peers and be entered in a drawing to win lunch for the day.

As students are preparing for their upcoming final exams, we want to remind them that the reasons they have for wanting an become a nurse are worth all their hard work.

Students were also treated to breakfast on Wednesday and a cookie break on Thursday afternoon. The staff from the Dayton campus even came up with their own cheer!

Below are some of the reasons that Hondros students have for wanting to be an RN:

One student is a Navy Veteran, and he returned to school to become an RN so that he can help other veterans recover from trauma and injuries.

One student has always wanted to be a nurse, but for financial reasons was not able to pursue her dream when her children were growing up. Her children are graduating from college now, and she returned to school to finally fulfill her dream!

A student who chose to become a nurse after he lost his twin brother. The nurse who helped the family through that situation inspired the student to purse the career.

An overwhelming number of students who wrote in that they want to be an RN simply because it is their calling; because they want to be able to help people when they need it; and because they are interested in medical technology.

Hondros College is proud of all of our students, and we believe that each and everyone has the ability to realize their dreams of becoming a nurse! Good luck on upcoming final exams!

Hondros College School of Nursing celebrates Spring/Summer graduation

September 20, 2010

Hondros College-School of Nursing celebrated graduation on Saturday, September 18, at the Roberts Center in Wilmington, Ohio. LPN and A.D.N. students who completed their classes in June and September 2010 were recognized in the ceremony. Cheryl Herbert, RN, MBA, FACHE, and President of Dublin Methodist Hospital, delivered the commencement address. Ms. Herbert encouraged students to stay informed of changes and advances in health care; to continue to wonder and challenge existing thinking and strive for new solutions; and to recognize the individualism of their patients. She also reminded students that the opportunities in nursing are endless in regards to where you career may take you; the people you will encounter in your career; and the experiences you will have.

Dr. Mark Hopkin, A&P instructor at the Hondros Columbus campus, spoke on behalf of the faculty. Dr. Hopkin applauded the Columbus A.D.N. students for being the first A.D.N. class to graduate from the Columbus campus. He acknowledged that as the first class, they encountered some learning experiences at the school, but reminded them that they helped shaped the program, as well as Dr. Hopkin's teaching style, for future classes. He encouraged students to act with their heart, not to the degree that they learned about the details of the heart in his A&P class, but in the manner with which they provide care to their patients.

Be sure to read the October newsletter for pictures of this special event for our graduates.
